May update


As I look ahead for the month of May, I realize that we are heading into our final push for the academic school year. We have a holiday on May20th and will be treated to the Asian heritage assembly at the end of the month.

In Language Arts, we will be working on our Soundtrack of my life assignment, where students choose songs that they relate to, or have a special significance to their lives. In addition, we will be conducting class debates to work on our oral communication and research skills. We will be continuing to read Sadia for our novel study and work on Wordly wise expand our vocabularies.

In History, we will be examining New France and exploring the Seven years’ war. Students will be completing a learning cube and writing a test and a quiz.

I hope everyone is going to enjoy Victoria Day and we only have one more update left.

April Update


As we head into the April, hopefully we will get to experience some spring weather. A reminder that there will be no school on Good Friday April 19th and Easter Monday April 21st.

In Language Arts, we will be critical opinion piece on the university admission scandal in the United States of America. In addition, we will be continuing to work on finding the main idea in a variety of mediums, examining point of view and working on word choice through a creation of a six word story. Furthermore, we will be working on creating protests signs and motivation posters. 

In History, we will be examining Canada’s beginnings before 1713, and eventually moving into the mid 1700’s. We will have a quiz and will be preparing for a test in mid May. 

I hope everyone is doing well and I know the warmer weather will soon be coming.

March Update

With March upon us,  hopefully will see some green grass or just grass soon and the much needed spring thaw. The school will be treated to our Black History assembly on the morning of March 4th. March break will be from March 11th to the 15th, with classes beginning again on the 18th.

In Language Arts, we will be completing our personal narratives and working on our Book in a Box reading assignment. The Book in a Box will be due on March 19th, giving the students an opportunity to work on their assignment throughout the March Break. In addition, we will be working on finding the main idea in a variety of mediums, examining point of view and working on word choice.

In History, we will be continuing to work on understanding historical perspective through primary and secondary sources. Furthermore, we will be beginning to examine Canadian beginning from around 1713.

February Update

I cannot believe that February is already here. A reminder that Report cards will be sent home on Friday February 8th, with parent teacher interview taking place from February 11th to the 15th. In addition, there is a PA day on February 15th as well as the family day on the 18th.

In Language arts, we will be working on personal narratives and creating, editing, revising and publishing a personal story from our past. Additionally, we will be working on our Book in a Box, based on our independent reading novel. Lastly, we will be continue to progress through our Wordly Wise lessons and complete our drama skits.

Geography will be coming to an end for the year as we begin our History position on February 19th. The students will be looking at why we study history, and using primary and secondary courses to examine different historical events.

I hope that everyone is coping with the cold weather and I for one cannot wait for the spring weather to appear.

January Update


Welcome back and Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a relaxing winter break.
   
 In Language Arts, we will be focusing our time finishing off reading our class novel “We are all made of Molecules” and working on reading comprehension associated with that text. Each student should have started reading a novel at the beginning of January in preparation for our project, A Book in a Box. In addition, we will be continuing to work on drama; specifically “tableaus”, short plays and skits. We will also be continuing to work on our vocabulary through our Wordly Wise reader, as well as small grammar units.

In Geography, we will be examining the concepts of Climate, Vegetation, and patterns of Rivers and Oceans.  

A reminder that report cards will be sent home on Friday February 8th. I hope everyone had a relaxing and restful holiday season.
